West Australian Regional Newspapers have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated journalist who is passionate about writing news for our regional newspapers, the Pilbara News and North West Telegraph.

Based in our Port Hedland office and reporting to the editor, this role is focused on producing content including copy, pictures and video for our print and online publications.

The key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Working in a team of five journalists and producing content for print and online publications
  • Researching, conducting effective interviews and writing stories accurately and succinctly and delivering prior to daily deadlines
  • Taking interesting, engaging and high-quality photos and videos
  • Building and maintain strong relationships with key contacts in the community to generate a steady flow of stories
  • Representing the company at weekend and evening functions and working weekends when necessary
  • Uploading content to our website and helping to maintain our popular social media channels
  • Helping with the production of the print products using our content management system

To be successful in the position, you will:

  • Be passionate about a career in print and online media
  • Demonstrate good interview, literacy and communication skills, and the ability to provide quality content under pressure
  • Demonstrate the ability to write high quality, accurate stories for publication
  • Demonstrate the ability to take engaging pictures and video content
  • Be a team player, prepared to tackle any task in the busy newsrooms we work within
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence


  • Communications degree or similar
  • Willingness to fill the position for at least two years and to be active in a regional community
