Media Education is seeking a dynamic, motivated and creative educator to engage schools through the development of curriculum-linked resources and initiatives for K-12 students and teachers. As an Education Officer, you will help to enhance the profile of Seven West Media (WA) operations within classrooms and the education sector, and engage with our brands including The West Australian, The Sunday Times, Channel 7 Perth and Telethon.

This diverse role includes developing curriculum-linked resources across a range of learning areas, implementing and promoting competitions and delivering teacher professional learning workshops.

The successful candidate will be extremely familiar with the WA Curriculum, and have extensive cross-curricular teaching experience in primary school-aged education (predominantly Years 3-6), or a specialisation in English or HASS.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Osborne Park. Consideration will be given to a job-share arrangement. The successful applicant will be required to commence employment in February 2018, and will be required to have a Working with Children Check.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Develop high quality, curriculum-relevant and engaging education resources, initiatives and opportunities for K-12 audiences (students and teachers).
    • support learning within and across a range of learning areas, including WA Curriculum: English, HASS, Science and Media Arts.
    • develop media-related resources using content from across Seven West Media (WA) operations - print, television, radio and online.
    • develop resources for a range of media forms, including digital.
  • Develop and deliver teacher professional learning programs for classroom teachers which support Media Education programs and messages.
  • Provide superior customer service by delivering an excellent education service that remains connected with teacher and student needs.

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • a degree or higher-level qualification in education.
  • current registration or eligibility to be registered with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
  • extensive experience in teaching and developing programs for primary school-aged education (predominantly Years 3-6), or in English or HASS.
  • a solid understanding of the WA Curriculum across a range of learning areas and various phases of development.
  • an awareness of current curriculum trends and engagement methods for a range of curriculum areas and various phases of development.
  • experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of creative and innovative education resources and/or experiences for K-12 students, including  high level of attention to detail, highly developed research skills, ability to interpret content for different audiences, and the ability to incorporate a range of thinking and learning strategies.
  • excellent written, visual and verbal communication skills.
  • experience in developing and presenting teacher professional learning programs.

Desirable:

  • an active interest in media and current events.
  • sound general knowledge and broad interest in topics such as history, science and media.
  • an understanding of digital media opportunities related to development of education resources.
  • previous experience working in an Education Officer role within a Zoo, Museum or similar environment will be looked upon favourably.
