The Opportunity:
As a Senior Publicist, News & Public Affairs based in the Sydney newsroom, you’ll be driving strategic communications campaigns and activity for Seven’s News & Public Affairs programs and associated presenting and reporting teams across 7NEWS, Sunrise, Weekend Sunrise, The Morning Show and 7NEWS Spotlight, as well as working closely with the 7NEWS.com.au and The Nightly teams.
This role will suit a highly organised, passionate and proactive team player with 5+ years’ experience in publicity and communications.
Reporting to the National Publicity Manager, News & Public Affairs and Sport, you’ll be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Developing and executing multi-platform communications strategies to promote Seven’s News & Public Affairs content, programs and teams across both owned and earned channels.
- Cultivating strong relationships with national media to secure positive publicity outcomes and coverage.
- Working closely with the news and public affairs leadership team, presenters, reporters and producers to amplify key stories and opportunities across platforms.
- Overseeing internal and external communications, including but not limited to press releases, media kits, communications and briefings. Oversee and support the production of promotional materials, including news packages, video clips, social media posts and content, graphics etc.
- Managing image and event coordination, including photo shoots and community initiatives. Support across our partnerships and community activity, including running our School Tours program.
- Monitoring media trends, campaign performance, and industry activities to identify opportunities, while remaining informed of the daily news cycle.
About You:
You’ll be an experienced communications professional with exceptional interpersonal skills, communication skills, a genuine passion for news and current affairs and a keen nose for a story.
You will have:
- 5+ years’ experience in PR, communications, or media, ideally in news or television.
- A degree in Communications, PR, Journalism, or related field.
- Proven track record of securing high-profile media coverage.
- A strong understanding of news, current affairs, and social media strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Flexibility and proactivity, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, due to the nature of the position and as news events dictate.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in a newsroom or media organisation.
- Journalistic background.
