The NextGen News project is a pivotal program driving the overhaul of news experiences for The West, PerthNow, and our Regional mastheads based on customer needs. After extensive research, the design phase is kicking off and we’re looking for an expert Senior User Interface Designer (Design Systems) to help us articulate and bring the vision to life.
The Senior User Interface Designer (Design Systems) will be joining our growing team of designers and researchers and is responsible for the design of the user interfaces and design systems across each of the NextGen News products (PerthNow, The West and our Regional digital products). This role is a 9 month fixed term contract.
About the role
- Drive the vision for Seven West’s Design Systems, laying the foundations and building on existing component libraries for mobile and web for PerthNow, The West and our Regional products.
- Execute UI components and UX patterns with attention to detail, taking into consideration different use cases and incorporating OS and Android developments as well as digital design trends
- Design intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces for mobile and web applications with a mobile first approach.
- Ensure that the defined business requirements, usability and accessibility requirements have been met and are consistent to the design practice and are documented.
- Create final high fidelity UI solutions that are development-ready in sync with our Agile sprints and timelines.
- Interpret and follow existing brand guidelines and the design practice using the appropriate tools and methodology
- Collaborate with the Product Manager and Product Design Lead to define key UI metrics to monitor and ensure positive outcomes for both users and the business.
About You
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience shipping products including developing Design Systems
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field such as User Interface Design, User Experience (UX) Design, Product (UX/UI) Design, Industrial Design or a related discipline
- Proficiency in design tools Figma, JIRA, Confluence and other relevant software
- Experience in design thinking methodologies, human-centered design, or other relevant design frameworks
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage designs across multiple products simultaneously.
- Experience working alongside development teams in an agile environment and in sprints
- Ability to think creatively and develop new and innovative ways of approaching problems/opportunities and engaging with various audiences.
