The Opportunity:

As a Senior Legal Counsel at Seven, you will play a key role in driving business success. Your responsibilities include ensuring compliance with legal frameworks, managing risks, and negotiating contracts that align with our commercial objectives.

In this role, your expertise will be instrumental in advising internal teams, resolving legal disputes, and optimising our contractual relationships. You will contribute significantly to Seven's growth and success by focusing on delivering clear, timely, and strategic legal advice.

Based at our head office in Sydney and reporting to the General Counsel, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing clear and timely legal guidance and advice that non-lawyers can understand, customised to the business's needs.
  • Managing contracts to ensure alignment with corporate goals and to defend interests.
  • Proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks to maximize the company's position.
  • Assisting in implementing new company endeavors and ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
  • Fostering collaborative problem-solving by focusing on practical solutions that align with legal and commercial objectives.
  • Optimising resource allocation to maximize the value of legal services for the company.
  • Assist in team growth by sharing experience and developing legal templates and best practices to improve the team's effectiveness.

About You:

You will be an experienced Lawyer with strong interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, and a collaborative mindset. Your attention to detail, analytical thinking, and proactive approach will be extremely beneficial in our fast-paced environment. Your ability to think creatively, provide good advice, and make fair judgments while working effectively in a team will be vital to your success.

You will have:

  • At least 6 years of experience in PQE, intellectual property, transmission, and digital agreements, with a strategic approach to complicated commercial negotiations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills, and the ability manage delicate situations with sensitivity.
  • The ability to mentor junior team members and commitment to maintaining company values
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing external lawyers to provide high-quality legal advice at a reasonable cost.
  • A current practicing certificate and be in regular attendance of CPD training to stay up to date with current legal developments.
  • Demonstrates expertise in industry-specific legal concerns and trends, providing accurate and relevant advice.
