The Opportunity:
As a Broadcast Support Technician at Seven, you will play a vital role in supporting the production needs of flagship programs like Sunrise, The Morning Show, 7NEWS, and major broadcast events from our South Eveleigh studios. You’ll be hands-on with the latest digital and 2110 IP technology, ensuring smooth operations in a fast-paced, 24/7 broadcast environment.
In this role, you will be supporting studio production equipment, Field/ENG production equipment, and broadcast infrastructure, including Master Control, Editing, Transfers (Ingest/News Exchange), Graphics, and control rooms. The position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and rectification of video, audio, and broadcast-related IT systems.
This position involves 24/7 shift work on a rotating roster to support Seven’s operational needs.
Based in Eveleigh, Sydney, and reporting to the Head of Technical Services, you will be responsible for:
- Repair, maintain, and troubleshoot broadcast equipment and IT systems, ensuring high uptime and reliability while following established procedures and adhering to safety and change management policies.
- Liaise effectively with operational staff, vendors, and third-party providers to resolve issues, manage support needs, and coordinate network and system requirements.
- Take ownership of technical development through self-education, proactive maintenance, and staying updated with emerging broadcast technologies.
- Administer systems, manage capacity and consumables, maintain detailed technical documentation and asset registers, and support system commissioning and reconfiguration.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, customer focus, calmness under pressure, and the ability to work independently and reliably.
About You:
You will be a curious, detail-driven, and solution-focused Broadcast Support Technician who thrives on solving problems and embracing innovation. You love working hands-on with technology and constantly seeking to learn, improve, and make things better.
You will have:
- Background in broadcast engineering, IT, production or TV operations experience.
- Familiarity with existing broadcast systems (e.g., iNews, Viz, Mosart); project management, scripting, advanced IT admin, and installation experience; up to three areas of technical expertise preferred.
- At least one or two expert-level areas (e.g., camera or VTR maintenance, IP streaming, RF tech, component repair, database administration, network engineering, etc.); physically capable of handling and installing heavy broadcast equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, and documentation abilities; foundational knowledge in electronics, television technology, IP networking, and OS administration (Windows/Linux); proficiency in using television tools and measuring equipment.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders across technical, operations, and editorial teams, as well as external vendors, service providers, and sales representatives.
