The Opportunity
Seven is looking for a Legal Counsel (4-8 years PQE) with regulatory and commercial experience to join our team. A strong background in and understanding of the broadcast, online and competition regulatory environment is essential, and an interest in policy development is desirable. You must also have good general commercial legal skills that can be used to support the General Counsel and the Seven Legal team.
Reporting directly to the General Counsel & Director of Regulatory Affairs in Sydney, this is a unique opportunity for a lawyer who has an interest in the media industry and is attuned to the regulatory landscape in which Seven operates.
What you’ll do:
- Take ownership of compliance, investigations and viewer complaints.
- Deliver practical regulatory advice aligned with our industry code and other relevant frameworks.
- Support the Privacy Officer in handling privacy-related issues.
- Engage confidently with regulators to safeguard trust and integrity.
- Draft and negotiate a range of commercial agreements that drive outcomes for the business.
- Contribute to the drafting of government, parliamentary and regulatory submissions and participate in industry-led initiatives shaping policy and practice.
- Collaborate alongside Seven’s senior lawyers and the broader legal team on diverse commercial and regulatory matters.
What you’ll bring:
You are an accomplished lawyer with strong verbal and written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail. You’re confident, passionate about the evolving media landscape, regulatory frameworks and the mechanics of government, and ready to make a real impact from day one. You’ll also have:
- Completed an undergraduate law degree or JD, and be a qualified lawyer admitted to practice in New South Wales.
- Minimum of 4-5 years post-qualification experience.
- Sharp research skills, creative thinking ability, and a strong work ethic.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
