The Opportunity:
As an Assistant Editor at Seven, you’ll support the 7NEWS Digital editorial team in the day-to-day operations of the news website. This includes editing articles, assisting with story development, and collaborating with reporters and other editors to meet deadlines. You will play a key role in ensuring that the website’s content meets our high editorial standards.
Based at our head office in Eveleigh, Sydney and reporting to the Director of Digital News, you will be responsible for:
- Working alongside the Page Editor and Director of Digital News in prioritising daily content ideas, assignments, scheduling and production.
- Leading content planning and execution on politics, business and finance stories, and working with the team to develop new ways of tackling these areas to appeal to 7NEWS.com.au audience.
- Collaborating with the Editor and wider team on future planning for features, investigations and execution which includes content planning for weekends and significant news events.
- Liaising with frontpage editors, the news editor and social teams on packaging, homepage placement and off-platform distribution.
- Identifying and implementing strategic initiatives in line with defined goals of growing audiences in our core demographic.
- Leading the wider newsroom in other editors’ absence and coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders across SWM.
About You:
You are an outstanding collaborator with strong editorial skills, a passion for news, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. You are exceptionally organised with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively under tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
You will have:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, english, communications, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an editor, journalist, or writer (preferably with experience in digital journalism).
- Excellent communication, editorial and writing skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Comprehensive understanding of the digital space: strong understanding of SEO, social media, and online journalism. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and basic HTML knowledge is a plus.
- A deep interest in current events and news trends.
