Our agricultural newspaper Countryman is on the hunt for a news editor to cover a 12 month paternity leave fixed term contract.  We are seeking a creative professional with a keen eye for detail and a genuine passion for storytelling. You must be curious about the world around you, enthusiastic, empathetic, and eager. To thrive in this role you will have excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, including being flexible with your hours and the ability to turn around high-quality content in tight timeframes. You will also have a keen news sense and the gift of the gab.

About you

  • A passion for agriculture or desire to learn
  • Strong writing and photographic skills
  • At least three-to-five years of experience as a reporter
  • A keen eye for detail and sharp news sense
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible with working hours and deadline driven
  • Enjoy regional travel and regional news
  • Preferably have editing experience

About the Role – you will:

  • Manage a team of three reporters to generate quality, accurate content for various platforms
  • Set together a weekly newspaper ranging from 28 to 40 pages per week
  • Cultivate a good catalogue of contacts in order to break stories
  • Liaise with our network of reporters across the State to deliver comprehensive coverage that caters to range of communities
  • Adapt to a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment, often working under tight deadlines
  • Be exposed to incredible opportunities
  • Embrace flexible work hours, including availability for evenings, weekends, and occasional travel as required
